The LeMans race of 1955 will always be remembered for the fateful accident that occurred on the finish straight, causing the death of 83 spectators and driver Pierre Levegh. Considered the greatest tragedy in automotive history. The race, even after the tragic event, continued. The Mercedes driven by Levegh crashed at over 200 km/h into the Austin, automatically jumping the barriers to fall into the stands while the engine violently exploded into pieces that flew out like shrapnel. Undoubtedly one of the darkest days in the world of motorsport.
